PROJECT 1: Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles
For this project we need to select an ordering principle from the following list:
- Axis - Symmetry - Hierarchy - Basis - Rhythm - Repetition.
After selecting the principle, we should explore the chosen ordering principle in terms of form and volume (model) through the following basic elements:
- Point - Line - Plane.
In the last part, we need to combine 2 or 3 of the main elements from the second part in a subsequent model that reflects the chosen ordering principle. Draw, render and colour 4 tattoo stamps for the model in Part 3.

REFLECTION
When I started this project I struggled with which principle to choose, and I ended up choosing symmetry, because initially I wanted to go with rhythm, but I had already tried it during the foundation period and wanted to challenge myself with a different principle. most people would probably consider symmetry to be a better choice than the others. principle, and I thought so too, but I was challenged when I started modelling the design. Symmetry means that the left, right, front, back, top and bottom need to be the same, but if the whole model looks the same, it will look monotonous, so I spent a lot of time in designing the model to avoid it being too monotonous. My tutor also gave me some ideas and suggestions for improvement, which led me to the present work.
Discipline Specific Knowledge
Problem solving, critical and creative thinking skills
This was the first project where I was required to express design intent through principles and elements and was an enlightening journey. This exploration has deepened my understanding and enabled me to consciously make thoughtful design choices, creating a dynamic interplay between theory and creative practice.
Critical thinking and creative problem solving skills are vital in the complex field of architectural design, and in this project I encountered many challenges that I used this skill to solve well. This ability was honed during this experience and has encouraged me to continue to improve and apply it throughout my academic career.
