REFLECTION

For the final project for Architectural Design 1, I reconceptualised and deeply analysed the model from the initial project. From this new perspective, I crafted a narrative for my model that evolved into an architectural exploration, emphasising pathways, portals and place elements. It was about a journey of self-reflection, filled with joy and curiosity and a desire to explore a world of unknowns and surprises. This emotion became my motivation to embark on a marvellous journey. However, after exploring deeper, anger welled up. In the face of injustice and lack of understanding, anger becomes the force that pushes me to change my reality and face life's challenges with courage. After the anger phase, loneliness sets in. Life is not always full of laughter. Loneliness allowed me to learn more about myself and reflect on the true needs of my heart. Finally, I enter the calm phase. Going through these emotions required cooling down my thoughts. By accepting the emotions and viewing the ups and downs of life with a calm mind, I can face the challenges ahead with more determination and clarity.
I named my model "PSYCHE PATCH", I named it because emotions are like different shapes of space, put them together they become a rectangle this represents a world, although not a perfect rectangle, but this reflects that our world is also pieced together, there will always be imperfections. With a choice of materials such as concrete, wood, glass and steel, I chose concrete, steel columns and glass, each of which had different characteristics that were crucial to my vision.
The first emotion is happiness and curiosity. In this space I used half concrete and glass to create it. The glass presents the mood of curiosity, as one can see the outside world through the glass, but cannot touch it, which creates curiosity to explore it more deeply. In the happy mood, the glass also shows a happy mood because the glass lets the light into the space and makes it bright. The reason for the happy mood is that people tend to get excited about something that is new to them and have a lot of good imaginations.
The second space is where the anger is expressed. This space is a space made of concrete. Every wall of this space has mirrors. Every mirror in this space is shattered. The shattered mirrors are meant to express the fact that this world is full of malice such as crime, disaster, and war, and find themselves constantly contemplating the inevitability of life's suffering. The contrast between childhood fantasies and harsh reality breeds anger.
The third space expresses loneliness. After the anger stage, there is a flight of steps, the height of the steps will be slightly higher, this is going to express the fact that in times of emotional anger, one will take a big step away. After the anger one would want to be alone, solitude allows one to understand oneself more and reflect on the true needs of the heart. The space of solitude is so small that you can only get in on your stomach, and it is also made of concrete. The surface of the concrete is cold and adds to the feeling of solitude. The space is also surrounded by mirrors and there is a hole in the roof that allows light to enter the space and when sitting in this light, one can clearly see the image in the mirror.
The last emotion to be expressed in this space is calmness. After all these emotions, we need to let our thoughts calm down. A short break to have enough energy to continue exploring the world. This space was built of concrete and glass, the bits of concrete built because one doesn't want to face those emotions.

My design was continually improved under the guidance of insightful feedback from my tutors, ensuring its excellence. Their meticulous scrutiny of my drawings was invaluable and paved the way for exemplary results.

Overall this project was not easy and over the course of five weeks I experienced a variety of emotions including happiness, sadness, frustration and overwhelm. However, I am glad that I know how to manage these negative emotions well so that I can keep coming up with good ideas and achieving results. I am thankful that my friends have been a constant source of encouragement to take care of my emotions during this time, which has taken a lot of pressure off of me. This project has given me a deeper understanding of designing spaces. I hope to make even more progress in the next term.
