REFLECTION
At the beginning of this semester, I thought it would be easier than the previous semesters, but the reality was completely the opposite. This was the most stressful and challenging semester I have ever experienced.
During P1A and P1B, we had to juggle two simultaneous group projects with the same deadline, creating a very tight timeline. P1A was completed as a guided group project, and we had to collaborate on a single presentation board. While there were a few instances of disengagement throughout the process, I worked closely with my highly motivated group members to successfully complete and present our work. This collaboration truly honed my communication skills, as we had to coordinate group progress and clearly communicate our design concepts to ensure consistency and integrity.
In the P1B project, our tutoring group was divided into two groups, each responsible for a different design project. Due to the insufficient contribution of some group members in the P1A project, our group had to spend extra time to catch up, which greatly limited our learning time in the P1B project. In addition, our tutor had very high requirements for the design structure, so we spent a lot of energy to improve the structure, resulting in less time for us to focus on model making. Although our final results did not fully reflect our efforts, I understand that there are still some shortcomings in the final results, so we will work harder to do better in the future
When we entered the final design project for P1C, it became the most mentally and physically demanding experience of my university life to date. From the outset, I spent two to three weeks constantly revising, reflecting, and refining the concept before beginning the design process. This process taught me to design by understanding the site, users, and social issues, which helped me connect architecture to real-world needs. This allowed me to strengthen my discipline-specific knowledge, understanding how architectural design can respond to communities and create meaningful spatial experiences.
My biggest challenge was developing the form. I spent a considerable amount of time experimenting with spatial layout and formal expression, which significantly delayed my overall progress. Fortunately, I was able to complete all aspects of the project. Throughout the process, I experienced many moments of uncertainty and self-doubt, confronting problems and constantly attempting to resolve them. This process helped me develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as I learned to cope with pressure, adapt to circumstances, and ultimately, gain confidence in my decisions and ideas.
In conclusion, this semester has been incredibly difficult for me, costing me many tears and hours of sleep. However, I sincerely thank all my group members for their hard work. It was thanks to their collaborative efforts that every task was completed. I am also deeply grateful to my friends who supported and encouraged me during these challenging times. Their companionship helped me regain my confidence and keep moving forward. Finally, I would like to thank my module coordinator, Ms. Lee Sze Ee, for her meticulous guidance in class, and my Tutor, Mr. Chong Wei Li, for his rigorous guidance and constant feedback. These efforts have helped me grow and improve throughout this challenging process.
