Assignment 1a: Low Energy Building Analysis
TASK
For this project, we had to form a group of 6 members and discuss the impact of the energy efficient strategies implemented to the built environment on the global scene and understand how these strategies affect the energy demands in the chosen building. We then had to list the potential inventory of its energy efficient strategies on (Façade, Lighting System, HVAC System, Waste Management, Renewable Energy used, Water Management).
OUTCOME
REFLECTION
For Project 1, I formed a group of six members with five other classmates based on the tutorial session. At the beginning, each of us searched for several potential buildings as case studies, and we later discussed our findings together to decide on the most suitable one. Eventually, we selected Council House 2 in Sydney, Australia, as we were particularly interested in its low-energy design features.
After selecting the building, we divided the research tasks among the group members, with each person focusing on a specific energy-efficient feature. My responsibility was to research water and waste management. We then collected and combined all of our research to develop the content for the final video. However, one of the main challenges we faced was that we had gathered too much information, which made the video longer than the required duration. To solve this issue, the group worked together to simplify and shorten the content, making it easier for the member responsible for video editing to organise and edit the final outcome efficiently.
Through this project, I learned the importance of communication, task distribution, and teamwork. By supporting each other and discussing problems together, we were able to overcome the challenges efficiently and successfully complete the assignment as a team.

Throughout this project, I strengthened my understanding of architectural design by applying site analysis, programming, spatial planning, materiality, environmental strategies and technical considerations into a complete design proposal. The project also helped me understand how architecture can respond to heritage, community and the surrounding urban context.
Developing the concept and translating it into architecture was one of the most challenging parts of the project. Through continuous exploration, feedback and design revisions, I learnt to analyse problems more critically, test different possibilities and gradually develop clearer solutions that connected the concept, programme and architectural form.
Project 1A allowed me to improve my ability to work as part of a team. Although I initially found it difficult to contribute during discussions, I learnt to communicate with my group members, understand different opinions and contribute through my strengths in drawing and visual presentation. This experience taught me the importance of collaboration and supporting one another within a team.
