REFLECTION

This semester marked the final stage of my architecture degree, and I began it with both excitement and anxiety. Knowing that this was my last design project encouraged me to put in more effort, observe the site more carefully, and challenge myself beyond what I had done in previous semesters.

At the beginning of Project 1A, I often felt lost because some of the methods and approaches were unfamiliar to me. I also found it difficult to actively contribute ideas during group discussions. However, with the support of my group members, I gradually learnt how to contribute through my own strengths in drawing, diagrams, and visual communication. This experience helped me develop TGC 5 — Interpersonal Skills, particularly in teamwork, communication, and understanding different strengths within a group.

The individual design phase was the most challenging part of the semester, especially during concept development. After receiving a result that was not what I had hoped for at Interim 1, I became discouraged and doubted myself. With encouragement from my friends and guidance from my tutor, I slowly reorganised my thoughts and developed a clearer design direction. Through continuous testing, feedback, and refinement, I strengthened my TGC 3 — Thinking and Problem Solving Skills and learnt that good design often develops gradually rather than beginning with a perfect idea.

Throughout the project, I also developed TGC 1 — Discipline Specific Knowledge by bringing together site analysis, programming, spatial planning, massing, materiality, environmental strategies, and technical considerations into a complete architectural proposal. This semester helped me better understand how different aspects of architecture need to work together to create a meaningful design.

As this project comes to an end, my architecture journey from Foundation to the final semester of my degree is also reaching an important conclusion. Looking back, I have experienced many challenges, uncertainties, stressful moments, and times when I wanted to give up, but I have also learnt and grown tremendously along the way. I am deeply grateful to all the lecturers, tutors, friends, and group members who have guided, supported, and encouraged me throughout these years.

Lastly, I would also like to thank myself for continuing to move forward despite the difficult moments. I am proud that I stayed, learnt from my struggles, and made it to the end of this journey. Whatever the final result may be, I will always value the experiences, lessons, friendships, and personal growth that architecture has given me, and I hope to carry them with me into the next chapter of my life.
