TASK
For this project, we had to identify the principles of energy efficient systems and overall practice of potential energy savings through inspection. We also had to evaluate energy consumption and the implementation of its strategies to reduce energy usage in design to deliver low energy architectural design.
OUTCOMES

Assignment 2 (a): Energy Audit E-Report
REFLECTION
For this project, I first collected the necessary information about the selected building, which was my family home. It is a two-storey semi-detached house where my family lives together. I began by collecting the floor plans and creating a simple 3D model in Revit. I then used several Revit functions to carry out the required building analysis.
After that, I measured the indoor and outdoor temperatures as well as the lux levels in different areas of the house and organised the collected data for comparison. I also gathered the electricity and water bills and recorded the electrical appliances used in the house to estimate their daily and weekly energy consumption. Since my younger brother and I were away from home for our studies during the data collection period, the calculations were mainly based on the usage of my parents and elder sister.
I then calculated the household’s carbon emissions and water consumption and compared my calculated results with the actual utility data to understand the differences between them. In addition, I calculated the U-values of the windows and roof to evaluate their thermal performance. Based on the findings from these analyses, I proposed several improvement strategies to increase the energy efficiency of the house and make it more sustainable.
Through this project, I gained a better understanding of how energy and water are consumed in a real residential building. It also helped me understand how building performance data, environmental measurements, and architectural elements can be analysed together to identify areas for improvement and develop more energy-efficient design strategies.

DISCIPLINE SPECIFICATION KNOWLEDGE

DIGITAL LITERACY
This project strengthened my discipline-specific knowledge by allowing me to apply theories of energy efficiency and building performance to a real residential building. Through analysing energy consumption, water usage, carbon emissions, and U-values, I gained a better understanding of how these factors affect the overall performance of a house.
This project improved my digital literacy through the use of Revit to create a 3D model and carry out building analysis. I also used digital tools to organise and analyse data related to temperature, lux levels, energy consumption, water usage, and U-values.
