Phase 2: Architectural Design Strategy
The goal of Project Phase 2 is to develop a personal architectural approach for designing a Learning Centre in Brickfields that benefits the community. This phase translates the findings and insights from Phase 1 into a design strategy that improves the public space with clear layout, smooth movement, adaptability, and opportunities for social interaction. The phase will also involve form-finding through 1:200 physical models that explore linear, perimeter, and diffused design types.
As part of the process, students are required to study two precedent cases—one international and one from a tropical urban setting. The focus will be on how these examples respond to urban block design, incorporate learning spaces within heritage contexts, and apply key tropical architecture principles, such as spatial organization, the relationship between public and private areas, climate-responsive strategies, and cultural relevance.
OUTCOMES

REFLECTION
In the second phase, as the focus shifted from pure analysis to translating research into architectural design, I gained a deeper understanding of Brickfields. The most challenging part for me has been coming up with a strong and powerful concept and translating it into ideas, as well as constructing the architectural form. These issues left me feeling lost and stuck. Thankfully, with my lecturer's patient guidance, I was able to come up with an approach suited to my project, and they provided suggestions and improvements for my ideas.

DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

DIGITAL LITERACY
In terms of Discipline Specific Knowledge, I have applied architectural theories to practice by translating research into design concepts, which reflects an understanding of professional practice within the field.
The project has strengthened my Digital Literacy, particularly in the use of design software and digital tools to communicate and present my ideas. The ability to effectively use ICT and related technology in the design process is essential for translating architectural concepts into tangible forms. These experiences have broadened my skillset, allowing me to approach design challenges with both technical proficiency and a greater understanding of the societal and cultural impacts of architecture.
