Phase 3: Design Development-Architecture for place-making

The goal of Project Phase 3 is to create a well-rounded architectural concept for placemaking in the city by designing a Learning Centre for the local community. Students will focus on developing architectural elements like form, space, façade, activity, and circulation, ensuring the design connects with the surrounding street, public areas, and scale, while also adapting to the tropical environment. The project highlights the importance of considering structural, environmental, services, and legal aspects, backed by precedent examples and Neufert standards, to guarantee the space is accessible and inclusive for everyone. The final design, through thoughtful development, detailing, and visualization, will showcase a seamless blend of theory, construction, and the urban context of Brickfields' Creative and Heritage Zone.

REFLECTION

Building upon Phase 2, I started delving deeper into architectural design, particularly focusing on the facade design. Through bi-weekly guidance sessions, I’ve seen my design evolve and improve. With my mentor’s thoughtful feedback, I was able to refine my design and make adjustments based on their input, ensuring that it met the project’s requirements. The whole process was time-consuming, but each adjustment helped me gain a deeper understanding of the complexity and challenges of architectural design.

This assignment has been an incredibly valuable experience for me. It’s my first time designing a five-story building in an urban setting, and it exposed me to design concepts and methods I had never encountered before. In previous semesters, I hadn’t had the chance to design buildings of this scale, so it felt like a completely new challenge. While time constraints meant my final result wasn’t exactly as I envisioned, I’m still proud to have completed the model and presentation board on time. Overall, this project has been a great learning experience and has motivated me to continue developing my skills in architectural design.

LIFELONG LERANING

During this project, I had to keep learning and improving as I went along. I learned a lot about architectural design, especially since this was my first time designing a five-story building. I had to figure things out on my own and stay engaged with the process, making changes based on the feedback I received. This helped me realize how important it is to keep learning and adapting, even when things get challenging.

COMMUNICATION SKILL

As I worked on my design, I had to present my ideas clearly to my mentor and explain my decisions. Whether it was through my model or my presentation board, I needed to make sure my concepts were easy to understand. Getting feedback on how to communicate my ideas better really helped me improve this skill, and I realized how crucial it is to communicate clearly in architecture, especially when presenting complex ideas.
